The LDSJournal Support Community

It's April, so that means a few wonderful things... at least from my perspective. First, Major League Basesball has started (I know it technically started March 31) and I always enjoy visiting with my brothers about games we've seen. It's a bond we all have and I treasure those moments that I get to share perspective on players and games. Since the season is long, that's a lot of talking. Second, March Madness has crowned a new champion (congrats UConn!) and third, the Masters is on the brink. Ah, I love Spring and all the fun activities that warm weather brings.

With all of those great things, April brings a wonderful opportunity to gather as friends and family to take part in General Conference. Whether that's listening to the counsel that is being given, or taking time to gather with family and focus on the "little" things, it's a moment to slow down and see the world around us. It's a chance to really see our loved ones and appreciate all that we have been given. I really love this time of year for so many reasons and General Conference is always so inspirational.

Now, I know this blog article is about our NEW Support Community, so I better get on with it. ;-)

Some of you may already know that we have a nice following on Facebook on our Fan Page and in our Group. Often times, we communicate with our users directly on Facebook about features and functionality they'd like to see. But mostly, we use it as a way to communicate with members that want to know what we're doing to make LDSJournal better.

Because of this, we've decided to create an LDSJournal Support Community with Get Satisfaction. This awesome tool allows us to build our support community directly into our Facebook Fan Page and allows everyone in our community to ask questions and get answers from the LDSJournal team or directly from the community. It's really great.

And just in case you're not a fan of Facebook or don't have an account, you can also get to the support community by going to http://getsatisfaction.com/ldsjournal.

We're going to begin moving a lot of the FAQs from LDSJournal.com into this support community and we hope to continue growing the article base. We're going to add video tutorials and screenshots as we move to LDSJournal v2.0, which is going to be a major change and something we know that users are going to be very excited about.

And before I go, I want to make one final note about April (today is the 5th). My birthday is 4 days away. My future father-in-law has his b-day on the 29th and most importantly, I'm now 67 days from being married to the love of my life and I can't wait! (Thanks for letting me self indulge!!!)

Getting Social and a shout out to Heather Lynne!

Most of you probably aren't aware, but our team at LDSJournal.com actually does high-end Web development for a number of companies and we also provide consulting services for a number of high-profile organizations. With our clients, we stress the importance of visibility and transparency with their customers. These facts combined with our lack of production in our own social media is extremely ironic and shameful. Over the past couple of weeks, we've been outlining our plans for 2011 and one glaring area we've failed in 2010 was social media. Now, any tech company worth a darn will tell you that a social media strategy in today's market can make or break or you. Quite frankly, we've been guilty of forgetting our social community. Rather, I've been guilty and I'm going to be better moving forward.

We have some lofty goals for 2011 and in so many ways I wish I could tell you everything we have planned. That said, I can tell you that we're looking to grow our development team. We're also looking to put LDSJournal in a position to be delivered in multiple languages this year. Again, all lofty goals and we're interviewing people to find the right fit for our team. If you're a developer and have a passion for this project, we'd love to talk to you. If you're interested in helping with translation, we'd like to talk to you too!

Lastly, I want to give a shout out to Heather Lynne, an LDSJournal.com member. While we were sleeping on our Facebook Fan Page, Heather wasn't. She posted photos of her LDSJournal printed book and shared her thoughts and feelings about the final product and they look amazing. It helped to answer some of our user's questions and we sincerely appreciated her help. She's obviously a gifted photographer with a great eye and she was kind enough to let us post this photo she took.
